Skyview Estates Airpark was founded by Dave Johnson and Dan Glandt, it was opened in July 1973. By 1975 the fledgling aviation community had grown to around seven people, they all decided it would be a good idea to pool their resources and form a covenance, so Skyview Airport Owners Pilot Association (SAPA) was created. The dues were a meager five dollars per month. They bought a mower, a tractor and built a roller. An electrical system was installed and a windsock erected. Plastic jugs were used for runway markers. In 1979 the founders acquired more land to the west and the runway was extended.
Many of the SAPA members were also affiliates of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Since its inception, Skyview Airpark has hosted two or more EAA events each year. We are proud to have introduced over 1400 Young Eagles to aviation through discovery flights. In 1996 the chapter built a clubhouse on the field, the addition of this amenity has made our cookouts and fly-in events even more enjoyable.
Our private airpark has come a long way from its humble beginnings and we still have quite a journey as we navigate the often bumpy airway to modernization. Some of the projects slated for 2019 include a crosswind runway!
